Untitled (Nets) framed print | Yayoi Kusama Framed Print | Yayoi Kusama Prints

Untitled (Nets) framed print by Yayoi Kusama — With no figurative subject supplied by the title, Untitled (Nets) directs all attention to the repeated texture of the surface. Each small loop participates in a pattern that appears to extend far past its own edges.

A net that refuses to end

The nets became a signature of Kusama’s New York years in the late 1950s and early 1960s. This title should be retained without attaching an unverified exact creation year.

Inside the Infinity Nets

Kusama’s first monumental Infinity Net paintings appeared in New York at the end of the 1950s. Building a continuous surface from tiny repeated gestures, she challenged conventional approaches to abstract painting and opened up an expansive sense of time and space.
