Pumpkin (GB-D) canvas print | Yayoi Kusama Canvas Print | Yayoi Kusama Prints

Pumpkin (GB-D) canvas print by Yayoi Kusama explores a green pumpkin against a contrasting dark setting. Inspired by the recognizable visual imagination of the Japanese contemporary artist, this canvas print creates an individual focal point for an art-led interior.

About the Artwork: Meaning & Analysis

This separately identified 2004 screenprint exemplifies how Kusama’s pumpkin prints rely on both recognizable form and the seemingly limitless repetition of spots and nets.

Visual Character and Composition

Graduated polka dots follow the green pumpkin’s ribs while net-like marks animate the surrounding field. The tension between the rounded form and the busy ground makes this version particularly graphic. The composition rewards a slower look at how the recognizable subject, its repeated forms and the negative space relate to one another.
