Lemon Squash framed print by Yayoi Kusama — A glass of lemon squash makes an unexpectedly lively Pop-inflected subject. Kusama’s interest in dotting and dividing surfaces lends the familiar beverage a decorative richness far beyond a conventional still life.

The beauty of a simple glass

Drinks and cups are recurring motifs in her prints. They offer recognizable contours through which her signature dots and nets can reorganize the way an ordinary object is seen.

Ordinary things, extraordinary surfaces

Fruit, drink and tableware make striking partners for Kusama’s repeated patterns. The combination of a recognizable everyday subject with dense graphic decoration is central to the charm and complexity of her printmaking.
