Tulipe I, Amour Pour Toujours framed print by Yayoi Kusama — A tulip becomes the center of an exuberant botanical design in this work from Amour Pour Toujours. Its distinctive flower head offers a clear shape around which Kusama can weave polka dots, decorative patterns and color.

A tulip from the Love Forever portfolio

The Amour Pour Toujours portfolio was made in 2000 and includes a pair of tulip prints. The “I” designation identifies the first tulip work, not the entire set.

Botanical memories and restless forms

Flowers and growing things were part of Kusama’s world from childhood. In her prints, an everyday natural subject can become a system of repeated lines, petals and dots, joining close observation of plants to abstraction.
