Pumpkin Green poster by Yayoi Kusama — Pumpkin Green presents Kusama’s familiar pumpkin through an explicitly green variation. The simple vegetable becomes a character-like artistic presence when its rounded form is combined with repeated marks.

A green version of the pumpkin

The green palette named in the artwork title gives this version its distinction from the many other pumpkin prints. Close attention to the gourd’s rhythmic form reveals why it has sustained so many reinterpretations.

Artwork Background and Meaning

Kusama’s repeated use of pumpkins joins childhood memory, humor and an ongoing artistic exploration of pattern. The motif also appears across her sculptures, paintings and installations.

Display Ideas

Its familiar subject makes a lively focal point above a console, in a creative dining area or beside other graphic still-life prints.
