Infinity Nets (A.B.) framed print by Yayoi Kusama — The lettered title Infinity Nets (A.B.) denotes a particular treatment of Kusama’s boundless mesh-like abstraction. Small repeated openings can make a static image feel alive with movement.

A lettered variation on infinity

Her signature net motif emerged in the 1950s and remains central to her practice. The A.B. designation helps separate this image from the other named nets in the import.

Inside the Infinity Nets

Kusama’s first monumental Infinity Net paintings appeared in New York at the end of the 1950s. Building a continuous surface from tiny repeated gestures, she challenged conventional approaches to abstract painting and opened up an expansive sense of time and space.
